Derrick Company

Derrick Company
The Derrick Company is a family owned and operated metal heat treating, abrasive blasting, and industrial spray painting business located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The current business is an outgrowth of The Frank J. Derrick Brick Mfg. Company, which was founded in the early 1920’s.
Derrick bricks became part of many building projects throughout the region including the tri-state’s premier high-rise building project in downtown Cincinnati at the time, the Carew Tower. The company entered the heat treating field in 1943 when the U.S. government was in need of very long heat-treating furnaces to process tank tread parts for the war effort.
Derrick Company continues to serve the U.S. Military effort on several fronts today, continuously performing work on parts for our Navy destroyers over the past 25 years, while currently participating in the production of components for the many armored vehicles currently deployed around the world.
Jason Schmid, the fifth-generation owner and operator of the business, came to Rula Harsh of First Commonwealth Bank through a recommendation looking for financing to replace a nearly half-century old furnace.
“I was recently working on a large capex (capital expenditure) project and had a compressed schedule to secure the funding,” said Jason. “The opportunity was presented to number of financial institutions, but First Commonwealth Bank was the clear winner. The entire team worked diligently to meet my requirements, and at the end of the day was able to craft a funding solution that catered to my business needs, as opposed to a pre-packaged solution that fit their business model.”
“In addition, I received personal attention from all levels of the organization, and I could tell that First Commonwealth wanted to be my partner on this business deal. I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with First Commonwealth Bank.”
