Olde Bedford Brewery
Big plans often start with small steps, which is exactly what happened when Dave and Mary Heller opened their business checking account with our team in Osterburg, PA. As long-time customers with their personal finances, the Heller’s knew the team at First Commonwealth would be just that to them in their venture to start Bedford, Pennsylvania’s first brewery – a team.
“We met with Pam and Koren at a local eatery to review the first draft of our business plan. From that point forward, they were a critical part of our team of stakeholders. They managed expectations of what it takes for a small business to be successful. Pam and Koren aren’t just our bankers – they’re part of our brewery.”
As natives of the Bedford area, the Hellers started tasting craft beers at the many breweries they encountered as Dave’s career in the FBI provided travel opportunities. Their vision for Olde Bedford Brewery meant staying true to the roots of “olde Bedford,” a geographic area that was at one time at the heart of the Whiskey Rebellion.
“It takes a village to raise a child and it took a town to build our brewery. We used every resource in the town for the benefit of our partners, whether it was the borough for water and sewer or the downtown Bedford businesses.”
Since opening their doors in early 2018, the Hellers have seen significant growth in their customer base, boosted by their strategic location just off the PA turnpike. To many, their brewery has become a gathering place for enjoying good drinks and good company.
“This is Bedford’s brewery – we’re just the caretakers.”
