Cellar Works Brewing Company
As three people in engineering who happen to share a love for craft beer, it didn’t take long before John and Laura Lasher and Tim Bauer knew they could turn their passion into a profit. Using their professional experience, they spent 18 months developing a business plan that would be the basis of their conversation with a bank to secure financing for the business, Cellar Works Brewing Co. The advice they received was that local, community banks would best understand their vision and have a passion for working together.
Larger banks wanted us to quit our full time jobs right away but First Commonwealth understood that at the start, we needed to be financially secure in our personal lives. If we aren’t, our business and marriage won’t be secure either. Family life is important. They saw all of that.
Working together with Lisa Allen and our SBA division, John and Laura secured the funding they needed to open their doors. And in the short time they’ve been in business, they’ve seen enough growth to expand tank cellar space, develop a canning operation and are distributing their brews throughout western Pennsylvania.
And to the Lasher’s and Tim, their business is about the community.
For us, it has always been about the community. People use the brewery as a gathering point and strangers are forming friendships. We watch relationships blossom. We all leave as friends.
