First Commonwealth...
helps to support our communities in need

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank was established in 1980 as a vital link between those who have food to share and those who desperately need it. We work hard to address the needs of children and families who are at risk of going hungry throughout our 11-county service area. We consistently provide food assistance to 120,000 of our most vulnerable neighbors. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank was one of the 13% of non-profits nationwide to receive a 4 Star rating from Guide Star and we received the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profits seal of excellence.

Through the sponsorship and endorsement of First Commonwealth®, we have been able to gain greater credibility throughout the community. They welcomed us into their branch locations to host food drives and made their banking services available for special projects. First Commonwealth is always available to answer questions and to provide guidance.

Even further, they have greatly helped us to promote our events. The Food Bank’s biggest fundraising event of the year, the Pittsburgh Blues Festival, takes place in July at Hartwood Acres. All of the proceeds go to feed the hungry and there is free admission on Friday if you donate a bag of non-perishable food. The Pittsburgh Blues Festival has helped the Food Bank raise more than $668,000 and First Commonwealth has been a major sponsor for four years. The people of First Commonwealth always have a very positive “can do” attitude creating a perfect match to the Food Bank’s organizational attitude.
