FIRST COMMONWEALTH MYSTERY TOURS

First Commonwealth is proud to sponsor the 2009 Mystery Tours provided by the Allegheny Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau.  The 2009 season of Mystery Tours will feature a variety of themes and attractions celebrating the beautiful sites, wonderful culture, and natural treasures the area has to offer. 

Mystery Tours are self-guided driving tours produced by the Allegheny Mountains Convention and Visitor’s Bureau five times a year.  Each tour offers visitors and residents a peek at The Alleghenies from a perspective off the beaten path.  Tour participants follow the driving instructions and wind their way through the hills and valleys of The Alleghenies, while stopping at different attractions, shopping and dining venues, state parks or other locations that coordinate with the tour themes.  While taking a tour, participants learn about the history of our area, including little-known facts about featured stops. 
           
Participants find themselves in more than one county.  The true mystery of the Mystery Tour is that participants never know exactly where they’re headed or what they’ll see and do.  Past tours have extended into Blair, Bedford, Centre, Huntingdon, Cambria, Clearfield and Indiana counties.

For those with a competitive spirit, Mystery Tours participants are offered the chance to win great prizes on each tour.  Along the tour, participants answer questions at each stop and enter their answer sheets in a drawing for prizes.  By investigating the stops or talking with the locals, tourers can find most of the answers to the questions.  The Mystery Tour Photo Contest also adds a little fun to each tour.  Photos are judged on best portrayal of the tour’s theme and by quality of the photo.

This year’s tours are sure to please residents and visitors once again.  The dates and themes are:

July 18th & 19th                       Blooms & Blossoms of the Alleghenies
August 8th & 9th                      Family Farm Tour IV
October 17th & 18th               Rails, Trails & Tunnels of the Alleghenies

Information packets on each tour will be available at the Allegheny Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureaus Welcome Center, located in the Blair County Convention Center on the days of the tour.
