First Commonwealth For Women Supports 'E-Magnify' ConferenceOn Friday, March 20, 2009, First Commonwealth for Women was a proud sponsor of a day-long women's conference entitled: E-Magnify "Building A World-Class Business" Conference The event was held at the Weston Convention Center Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh and offered women-focused programs throughout the day. What is E-Magnify®? E-Magnify is a women’s business center that was established by Seton Hill University in 1991 to support and expand the role of women business owners in our communities by providing them with business counseling, mentoring, education and training. Held in March each year, this comprehensive small business conference highlights topics of interest to women entrepreneurs interested in growing their businesses. Conference Highlights In addition to break-out sessions offered throughout the day, the event also featured a mentoring roundtable provided by the Women Presidents' Organization and a widely acclaimed luncheon keynote speaker, Genevieve Bos, co-founder and publisher of PINK magazine. Earlier in the day, the event was kicked off by a Breakfast Panel featuring eight local businesswomen who were featured in Pittsburgh magazine’s new quarterly Women in Business spotlight, including our own Sue McMurdy, EVP & CIO, First Commonwealth Financial Corporation. The panel discussion was moderated by Betsy Benson, Publisher of Pittsburgh Magazine. A Rise In Women Owned Businesses Women owned-businesses will continue to be an area of opportunity for First Commonwealth... and we are well poised to meet the challenge. In the past 15 years, the rise of women-owned businesses has increased significantly. And contrary to the traditional image that many women businesses are single-person, home-based enterprises, the number of women-owned businesses with employees increased significantly during that same period.
